Vital Start is a University of Pennsylvania’s Penn Center for Innovation (PCI) company focused on patient informed care management for smart, safe, value-based care across the continuum. Our initial focus is on integrated care delivery for opioid exposed babies and their mothers through an interactive augmented reality (AR) mobile application  for hands-free, immersive virtual psychological support. The goal is to promote medical, social and behavioral support through positive mental health/bonding between mothers and babies exposed to opioids for optimal long-term outcomes.

Vital Start is an AppItUP Challenge winner and has been selected for the Wharton Small Business Development Center (SBDC) advisory program and the Village Pathways program through Village Capital in collaboration with Ben Franklin Technology Partners and UBS.   Vital Start  was formerly SugarTool, incubated to manage complex neonatal ICU and Inpatient conditions that can have an adverse impact on the lives of babies and hence the future of population health. It has since broadened its focus to provide smart, safe, value-based care for children and their mothers across the continuum.
